Raised in Trumbull, CT, Lisa spent her undergraduate years in New York City working on cellular machinery modeling and microchip droplet based PCR.  At CMU, her research interests include drug & gene delivery for chronic wound healing. Lisa also enjoys dancing, cooking, and writing short stories.

Originally from Saudi Arabia, Khalid attended boarding school in England before moving to the U.S. During his undergraduate years, he developed drug delivery systems to treat the rare cancer, Waldenstroms Macroglobulinemia. Khalid cooks terrific meals for group parties (beef tenderloin!), and, in his free time, he enjoys playing soccer and watching movies.

Nick hails from Upstate New York and developed an interest in drug delivery research while working with bacteria-derived vectors at Cornell. His current focus at CMU is on modulation of intestinal permeability for oral delivery technologies. When he's not working, Nick enjoys cooking, playing his trumpet, watching hockey, and doing almost anything in the great outdoors.

A Pittsburgh native, Rose completed a Fulbright fellowship in Taiwan following graduation from Notre Dame. In Taiwan, she built microfluidic devices to detect genetically modified crops. Outside of lab, Rose likes the outdoors and exercise.

Originally from Ohio, Ryan synthesized and characterized biodegradable sequenced copolyesters at the University of Pittsburgh in Tara Meyer's group during his Ph.D. He is now the polymer guru of the Whitehead group. In his free time, he enjoys hockey (go Blue Jackets!), watching movies, and walking around Pittsburgh.

Max was born in New York state and spent several years watching squirrels from his window in Somerville, MA before moving to the ultimate location - the Squirrel Hill neighborhood in Pittsburgh. Max took an early interest in being in charge and has laid on many manuscripts, learning science via osmosis.

Finley was born in New York to Max's sister, Annie, and was raised in Somerville, MA before moving with his family to Pittsburgh. His fascination with running water led him to pursue a position as Dishwasher in the Whitehead Lab. He's not very good at it due to his inability to follow instruction, but we keep him around because he is ridiculously cute.
