Raised in Trumbull, CT, Lisa spent her undergraduate years in New York City working on cellular machinery modeling and microchip droplet based PCR.  At CMU, her research interests include drug & gene delivery for chronic wound healing. Lisa also enjoys dancing, cooking, and writing short stories.

Rebecca is originally from Linden, MI, and discovered her love for research while synthesizing thiolated chitosan for artificial heart valves at Wayne State. Currently, Rebecca's research interests are in oral delivery to the gastrointestinal tract for inflammatory bowel diseases. Outside lab, Rebecca enjoys reading, swimming, yoga and traveling to tropical destinations.

Originally from Saudi Arabia, Khalid attended boarding school in England before pursuing his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester. During his undergraduate years, he worked on the development of drug delivery systems to treat the rare cancer Waldenstroms Macroglobulinemia. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, watching movies and cooking.

Nick hails from Upstate New York and developed an interest in drug delivery research while working with bacteria-derived vectors at Cornell. His current focus at CMU is on modulation of intestinal permeability for oral delivery technologies. When he's not working, Nick enjoys cooking, playing his trumpet, watching hockey, and doing almost anything in the great outdoors.

Yan grew up in a huge city, Nanjing, China, before moving to a tiny town in Ohio for his undergrad degree. He then worked in a slightly bigger town, Charlottesville, VA, as a lab tech studying infectious disease before moving to the mid-sized city of Pittsburgh. Outside of the lab, he enjoys watching talk show clips on YouTube, working out, and traveling.

Originally from Ohio, Ryan synthesized and characterized biodegradable sequenced copolyesters at the University of Pittsburgh in Tara Meyer's group during his Ph.D. He is now the polymer guru of the Whitehead group. In his free time, he enjoys hockey (go Blue Jackets!), watching movies, and walking around Pittsburgh.
